NATURAL REMEDY - Ghee Butter Deep Conditioning Treatment
The East African secret to beautiful, soft natural hair is ghee butter.
Ghee Butter (preferably organic)
TIP 1: If you don't happen to live in East Africa or don't know how to make ghee yourself, you can find ready made jars in Indian stores. You may come across vegetable ghee but that's not the ghee you're looking for. What you want is the ghee made from milk.
TIP 2: To make the treatment more potent, you can gently fry fresh garlic, indian curry leaves, turmeric seeds or any other herbs and spices of your choice in the ghee before applying it. Make sure the herbs and/or seeds do not burn and strain them out before applying the ghee to your hair.
Apply a generous amount of ghee to your hair from root to tip. The butter melts into an oil when rubbed between the palms of your hands.
TIP 3: If your ghee is usually stored in the fridge, take it out and let it sit until it comes to room temperature. If you're short on time, estimate how much ghee you'll require depending on the length of your hair, and warm it up in a double boiler.
This is a pre-shampoo treatment so it must be applied to dry or slightly dampened hair. If you have a steamer, sit under the steamer for 20 mins then shampoo and style as usual. If you don’t have a steamer, cover your hair with a plastic cap or wrap it with cling film. Cover your head with a scarf and leave the treatment on for as long as possible. You can even leave it on overnight. Wash with shampoo in the morning and style as usual.
