NATURAL REMEDY - Clay Facemask (For Oily/Combination & Acne-Prone Skin)
100ml Distilled Water
4g Dried Yarrow Herb (natural source of salicylic acid)
1 Teaspoon Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
Place the dried herb in a glass/plastic bowl.
TIP 1: You can include other healing herbs with the dried yarrow, e.g. comfrey, calendula, burdock, chickweed, etc. Total weight of herbs must be 4g per 100ml of distilled water.
Boil the distilled water and pour it into the glass/plastic bowl that contains the dried yarrow herb. Stir with a plastic spoon or glass rod.
Cover the bowl with a ceramic plate or cling film and allow the herb to infuse for at least 20 minutes.
TIP 2: Allow the infusion to cool right down to room temperature, before straining it to get a stronger blend
Strain the infusion, keep the liquid and dispose of the herb. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice to the strained infusion.
When ready put a tablespoon or two of bentonite clay in a clean small plastic bowl. Mix in your strained herbal infusion a little at a time until you get your desired consistency. Mix with a plastic spoon or plastic spatula.
TIP 3: You can add organic aloe vera as well as the herbal infusion whilst mixing until you get your desired consistency
Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 15 – 20 min.
TIP 4: Bentonite clay causes your skin to tingle as it draws out impurities from your pores. This is a gentle tingling sensation and should not feel uncomfortable. If you don’t like the tingling or experience irritation, you can replace bentonite clay with French green/pink clay or kaolin
NOTE: If you’re light skinned, don’t be alarmed when you're greeted by a slightly red face after washing the mask off. The redness will subside within half an hour.
TIP 5: Divide the remaining herbal infusion (according to the quantity that was used to get to your desired consistency) and freeze the batches for use in the following weeks. Use the infusion immediately after thawing (you can warm it up gently before mixing it with the clay – make sure not to overheat it or boil it). The lemon juice acts as a mild preservative so it’s best to make the infusion in small batches.
